I do though want the convenience of cloud storage. Enjoy the videos and music you love upload original content and share it all with friends family and the world on youtube. I m quite surprised and satisfied with it these days. That s why i m glad that back in 1992 the first step in my career journey was pointed toward the open source community.

As a superuser of google goods and services the last few months like 2020 in general has had me rethink how i approach my digital life. Like i said i like the price pressure this puts on those selling storage for a living but i ll stick with my baby owncloud for its flexibility use of my own storage or other storage that i choose and open standards and apis. The technology appealed to my curious mind. My solution was to build my own personal cloud using seafile an open source cloud server running on my own linux based raid storage system. My files are under my control on a machine that i built using software that i inspected and encrypted with my own secure keys. Instead of flexibility i see enormous lock in.
